Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?
Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” is the 2010 sequel to the comedy drama “Why Did I Get Married?” and centers around four couples who have been friends since college. The couples have an annual retreat in which they evaluate their marriages and relationships.
This time the couples have chosen tropical Jamaica as their retreat spot. However, during their stay Patricia (Janet Jackson) and Gavin (Malik Yoba) make an unexpected announcement. Also Mike (Richard T. Jones), who was previously married to Sheila (Jill Scott) (who is now married to Troy (Lamman Rucker)), makes an unannounced and unwelcome entry to the party.
In this film (and the previous installment), action actor Michael Jai White (Undisputed, Undisputed II, Spawn) portrays a more mild nature muscle bound husband who seems almost afraid of his wife.
The wife, Angela, played by Tasha Smith is what you would describe as maniacal, almost diabolic. She is constantly in the belief that Marcus is cheating on her.
Perry’s films always make a general statement that hits you right in the face. However, this film is a more subtle approach.
Rather than tell us what a marriage should be about, Tyler points the weakness, causes and effects our decisions in a relationship can cost. This then prompts the audience to look deeper to find the answer to each problem.
I found this film very entertaining as well as informative. However, anyone thinking of seeing this film should watch the first installment, especially to understand the relationship between Sheila and Mike.
