Fast & Furious 6 makes fast and furious Memorial Day getaway at the box-office
According to Entertainment Weekly, Universal Studios raked up more than US$100 million during the Memorial Day holidays – the second highest opening after Iron Man 3 – proving their predictions wrong.
The prediction follows the $86 million take from the previous installment, Fast 5, during its opening week. However, it seems Americans just love the franchise more, with the opening take at $120,019,000.
Now, that’s a lot of fast cars and getaways. Hopefully the reaction will be quite as memorial here as in the United States.
Papua New Guinea’s premier cinema, Paradise Cinemas, have been promoting the film lately and it seems that Fast and Furious 6 is next on the premiering list.
Fast and Furious 6 bring back the gang who are now on the run and without a country. In steps Agent Hobbs (played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) who enlists the aid of Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew to take-down a rival gang, led by Owen Shaw, in return for a clean slate. However, things will get personal when someone from their previous lives comes into the picture.
Of course, you all know who that someone is if you’re a fan of the franchise.
Anyway, the film plot is definitely a step away from the previous series and the crew are now willfully helping the police – something Dom has always been against.
I also made a prediction that Fast and Furious 6 could be the finale of the successful franchise involving fast cars. However that remains to be seen.
Fast and Furious 6 opens this Thursday at Paradise Cinemas.
