Mr Pip premiers in PNG tonight
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has been anticipating the premier of screen adaptation of award winning novel, Mr Pip, on the big screen and today the wait will finally end.
The screen adaptation stars Hugh Laurie and a number of local talents including Florence Korokoro and the young and vibrant Xzannjah Matsi.
Ms Matsi, originally from Bougainville but attends schools in Gladstone, Australia, was flown into the country by Paradise Cinemas and PNGFM for the premier which is tonight.
The film is an intimate drama about a young girl who creates an imaginary friend to escape the harsh realities of her surroundings.
Set on the backdrop of the bloody civil war in Bougainville and shot partly in Pidia, Central Bougainville, the film has the potential to market the province and PNG to the rest of the world.
