‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ sequel in the works
The sequel to the hugely popular romantic comedy ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding‘ is in the works according to actress Nia Vardalos who penned and starred with Sex and the City’s John Corbett, hypable.com reports.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, or MBFGW to fans, was released in 2002 and took the comedy world by storm, grossing the highest for any film that never reached the box office hit list. However, the story of how the story evolved is a bit more interesting in real life.
The film first started as a one man play penned by Vardalos and is based on her family and experience marrying a non-Greek. It is essentially, as Tom Hanks puts it, “Nia’s version of her own life and experience” creating integrity in the film.
Vardalos is married to non-Greek actor Ian Gomez who is notable for his roles in Cougar Town and Felicity.
A release date for the sequel has not yet been announced but Vardalos has confirmed that John Corbett would be reprising his role as the non-Greek husband.
