What to expect from the new cinema at Waigani Central
For some time now I’ve been quietly anticipating the opening of the new cinema at Waigani Central (WC) that was announced late last year. Of course, my excitement was the fact that it would give some kind of competition to the cinema at Vision City (VC) and ultimately lower the price of tickets.
Well, my hopes have been confirmed with Skerah.com reporting the ticket pricing will be lower with at K18 (adults) and K15 (kids 12 and under) for 3D and K15 and K12 for 2D respectively.
There will be 3 screens just like VC, however, with different seating capacities. The first is expected to hold 177, the second 180 and the last 182. A recreational gaming center will also be available.
Our only question now, is how will affect the cinema at VC? The pricing and free parking currently available at Waigani Central will undoubtedly attract movie goers from VC to WC which may result in a drastic drop at the competing cinema.
Essentially, both cinemas are owned and operated by the same company. However, if pricing and the fact that the company is renting space remain the same then VC could be choked out of an audience.
At the moment, city residents have no choice – there is only one cinema. Fortunately, that will change when Waigani Central opens.
