Mourning Grave – a Korean ghostly love story
Mourning Grave is 2014 Korean ghostly horror /love story about a young boy In-su (Kang Ha-neul) who has the gift, or curse, of seeing the dead. Unfortunately, this causes trouble for him in the city and he decides to return to the country with his uncle Seon-il (Kim Jung-tae) who shares the same gift.
Unfortunately, he becomes the target of the school bully Hae-cheol and soon finds solace in the company of a beautiful ghost girl played by the stunning Kim So-eun. However, when a vengeful ghost starts killing students, he must use his gift and help resolve the murderous ghost’s grudges.
Now, it’s always refreshing to watch foreign films and I found Mourning Grave to be a mesh between a teen-kill flick, coming of age and love story.
Obviously, the blood and a bit of gore would not appease the wacky minded audience but the love story will definitely touch the sensitive soul.
While In-su’s character is more serious, his uncle provides comic relief and at times you get the feeling that some parts have been borrowed from the Scary Movie franchise.
Despite being able to guess the killer pretty early, it was really interesting to see the love interest of the main character to be a ghost. I mean it’s nothing new but with a ghost a beautiful as Kim So-eun, who wouldn’t want her?
